William Laing and Ann Finlayson

William Laing (b. 12th August 1859) in Lerwick was the seventh of eight children of John Laing and Joan Fea.

He emigrated to Australia and married Ann Finlayson on 23rd November 1882 in Melbourne. Ann was the daughter of William Finlayson from Inverness and Janet Robertson from Glasgow.

William and Ann had eight children:

• Florence May Laing b.1885. She lived in Melbourne and died there in 1940.

• Christina Laing b. 1887

• William Laing b. 6th August 1889 in Footscray, a Melbourne suburb. He married Jessie Ismay Sutton (b. 3rd December 1898, Melbourne) in 1915. William and Jessie had family. Jessie died in 1935 and William died at Footscray in 1981.

• Annie Laing b. 1889 in Footscray, Victoria and died there on 2nd February 1914 aged twenty five.

• Leslie John Laing b.1890 and died in 1893 in Footscray.

• Jessie Laing b. 1896 and died on 11th March 1913 in Footscray.

• Elsie Laing b. 1899 and died in 1900 in Footscray.

• Margaret Laing b. 1903 in Footscray.

Ann died on 25th August 1934 in Yarraville and William died in Footscray, not far from Yarraville, in 1944.
