Margaret Winton and Stephen Copper

Margaret Winton (b. 1st April 1855, Falkirk) was the fourth of the children of Alexander Winton and Helen Fea. She was born after the return of the family from Glasgow to Falkirk.

However, she did marry in Glasgow as did a number of her sisters. Her husband was Stephen Copper and they married in Maryhill, Glasgow on 5th January 1880. Stephen was English, being born in Seven Oaks, Kent to Robert Copper and Mary Jones around 1854.

Following their marriage, they lived in St Pancras (1881) and then the Marylebone area of London. They had three daughters:

  • Mary Helen Copper b. 18th August 1880, Partick, Glasgow. Mary was with the family in St Pancras in 1881 and Marylebone, London in 1891.
  • Margaret Copper b. abt 1886, Marylebone, London. She was with the family in Marylebone, London in 1891
  • Victoria Copper b. abt 1887, Marylebone, London. She also was with the family in Marylebone in 1891.

Stephen's occupation in the 1881 census was groom and in 1891 coachman (domestic service). In 1901, his occupation is draper's coachman while Margaret is a cook. None of their daughters were in the household at this time.

Margaret died in 1951, aged ninety six.
