The visit of Patrick Traill and his "other" wife to Orkney is mentioned in from a letter dated 7th 1719 from his brother, David Traill, to his sister:
....My brother Patrick's wife is along with him, who seems to be
a sensible discreet woman. My only fear is that B.F. come here and
plague people betwixt them. I wisch the Lord would either put her
in a pacable temper, or else remove her from being a scourge to my dear
brother....
