Catherine (Kate) Cockburn Maclaurin was born on 8th August 1858 in Sandsting, Shetland, a daughter of Robert Campbell Maclaurin and Martha Joan Spence.
She emigrated to New Zealand and subsequently met Edward Waddington who had arrived in New Zealand on 19th October 1873 on board the "Hydraspes" with his brother Rowland. They were to join their father, Edward Waddington, on a property near Pirongia in North Island.
Edward jnr. was born about 1859 at Bishop's Court, Wakefield, England and the son of Edward Waddington and Julie Bristowe. He and Catherine married on 20th January 1886 in Cambridge, New Zealand.
They had nine children, a son Edward Waddington, and eight daughters. Edward was an insurance agent.
Edward died at Paekakoriki, New Zealand on 22nd August 1926 and Kate on 14th June 1947 in Auckland.
