Edward Thomas Woodford Maclaurin was born on 9th April 1867 in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders after the family had moved from Shetland.

He married Winfred Ball (b. 1877, Brigg, Lincolnshire) in Auckland, New Zealand in 1896.

Edward and Winifred had six children:

• Gertrude Una Maclaurin

• Nancy Cockburn Maclaurin b. 15th November 1903 in Auckland who married Louis Carey Parker in Wellington on 12th March 1930. Nancy and Louis had family. Louis died on 13th April 1958 in Gisborne, New Zealand and Nancy on 3rd November 1987.

• Margaret Spence Maclaurin b. 1905 who married Frank Oliver Williment in 1928. Margaret died in 1985..

• Eleanor Lloyd Maclaurin b. 1908 and married Edmund Ewen (b. 1902). Eleanor died in 1989.

• Kenneth Edward Douglas Maclaurin b. 1909. Kenneth died in 1989.

• Winifred Joan Maclaurin b. 1899 who married her first cousin, William Macky Maclaurin in Wellington on 14th September 1926. William was the son of James Scott Maclaurin and Dorcas Macky. William, like his elder brother Colin Maclaurin, was a doctor (MBChB). William and Winifred had family. William died on 5th May 1987 and Winifred on 29th September 1986.

Edward worked in the Customs Department. He died on 24th April 1944 and Winfred on 15th February 1956, both in Wellington.
