Anna Gow

Anna Gow must have been some years older than her brother, John Gow (b. 1697), for she was married on 29th June 1708 to Harry Clouston, the son of Hugh Clouston, a merchant and Burgess of Kirkwall.

Hugh Clouston was the owner of Twartquoy in the township of Hanbister for, in a sasine registered at Kirkwall on 24th September 1708, he gave this and houses in the parish of Orphir to his son, Harry Clouston, and his wife, Anna Gow.

In the sasine, Anna is described as:

....eldest lawful daughter to William Gow, merchant in Stromness.

Orkney Sasines, 2nd Series, Vol 7

Anna's brother, John Gow, was present at the time of this gift.
