Gratitude to James Fea VI of Clestrain

The Revenge and her cargo went back to her owners. James Fea would have been entitled to a third part of the value and might have expected a reward from the Government for his part in the capture of John Gow.

Long legal disputes arose and there were a variety of false claims made against him by Newgate solicitors acting in the name of John Gow and the pirate crew and others. Some of the claimants may have wanted revenge, others to participate in any prize money.

The expenses of these legal proceedings, which dragged on for the next thirty one years until his death in 1756, ruined the fortune of him and his family.
