William Traill and Sarah Luce

William Traill married Sarah Luce on 4th March 1790 and they had two daughters, neither of whom were to marry or have descendants:

  • Mary Balfour Traill who was born in 1793 in Stoke Dameral, Cornwall. Mary died on 18th September 1826.
  • Isabella Sarah Traill who died on 29th November 1839.

Sarah Luce died on 17th April 1806 at the age of 37. William Traill died barely two years later in on 25th June 1808.

There is a memorial to the family in the church of St Stephen, By Saltash, Cornwall. This is on the north wall, by the base of the bell tower. The inscription goes:

Sacred to the memory of SARAH TRAILL
Who departed this life the 17th April 1806
Aged 37 years
Also to WILLIAM TRAILL esq her husband
Who died the 25th of June 1808

Also to MARY BALFOUR TRAILL daughter of the above
Who died September 18th 1826

This monument is erected as a small tribute
Of grateful affection to excellent parents
And a beloved sister
And here also interred

The 29th day of November 1839
