Introduction / The Island / Schooling / Teachers Margaret (Peggie) Matheson and Edgar GibsonPeggie Matheson came to the Pharay school as teacher after the summer holidays in 1928, leaving the position on 10th January 1930. The roll during this time was around thirteen children. She married another teacher, J Edgar Gibson. He taught technical subjects at the Kirkwall Grammar School. They lived in Kirkwall. Edgar (Gary) was a great Uppie Ba player, wining the Men’s New Years Day Ba in 1947. They had family who continued the Uppie Ba playing tradition. Gary died on 16th November 1976 at the age of seventy four. Peggie died on 27th February 2002. She was ninety three. | |||
