Reaching the Shore

When the Hope struck, she rolled over on her side just out from the land. She was totally exposed and a blizzard was raging. The crew tied a rope to a small boat, which they managed to launch. Half of the crew managed to get onboard and drifted downwind to the rocks where they managed to get safely ashore.

The others who were still clinging to the trawler pulled the rope to get the small boat back and they got on board. Before they reached the shore, the boat overturned with the captain’s brother underneath. The captain, Alexander Youngson, who was twenty seven, dived under the boat and managed to rescue his seventeen year old brother. Somehow they all managed to reach land.
