David Hourston Cormack and Jane Cormack

David Hourston Cormack (b. 8th December 1859) was the second of the four children of James Cormack and Elizabeth Hourston. The family stayed at Blackbanks, which had been the Cormack family home for some generations.

David married Jane Cormack (b. 18th January 1856) on 27th August 1885 at her parent’s house of Breck. She was the daughter of Peter Cormack and Jane Peace. David and Jane were second cousins through their Cormack ancestry.

They emigrated to Alameda County, California shortly after their marriage. There were certainly six children born to them in California.

  • Rosiana Cormack, born November 1887
  • Mabel Cormack, born December 1889
  • John Cormack, born 17th March 1892; died Alameda Co. on 24th August 1960.
  • Ronald W Cormack, born 14th January 1895; died Alameda Co. on 14th September 1953.
  • Douglas Cormack, born 29th September 1895; died Alameda Co. on 8th December 1966
  • Jane Cormack, born June 1900

In the 1910 census, David’s father, James Cormack was with the family and a widower. In 1920, the family were at Hayward, Alameda Co.
