Elizabeth Drever and John Mainland

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Drever, the oldest child of Robert Drever and Jane Harcus was born at Moa, Rapness, Westray on 11th April 1871. She married at Moa, 24th February 1899, John Mainland, son of William Mainland and Barbara Stevenson, born at Onzibist, Egilsay, on th December 1866. Lizzie and John had four sons:

• William John Mainland, b. 7th Jan 1900 at Clifton, Rapness, Westray and d. 15th May 1987, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He married Grace Mann in Oct 1926 and they had six children.

• Robert Drever Mainland, b. 4th Feb 1901, Clifton, Westray, and d. 16th Jan 1975, Canada. He married Jessie May Griffin 30th Oct 1937 and they had a family of five.

• James David Mainland b. 15th June 1902, Airy, Stronsay and d. 27th Dec 1988 in Saskatchewan, Canada

• Archie Spence Mainland, b. 3rd Jan 1906, Airy, Stronsay and d. 1996 in Winnipeg. He married Eileen Prowse. 5th July 1952 in Brandon, Manitoba. They had a daughter. Archie married again, in 1992.

John was a farmer at Clifton for a few years before the family moved to Stronsay. They later immigrated to Canada and settled in or near Winnipeg. Lizzie died there on 8th March 1949. John died a few months later, on 26th November 1949.
