Introduction / Families / Harcus / William Harcus (Hercus) and Janet Groat / John Harcus and Jane Scollay / Jean Smith Harcus and John Sinclair Jean (Jane) Sinclair and John KentJean (Jane) Sinclair (b. 19th September 1862) was a daughter of John Sinclair and Jean Smith Harcus. She married John Kent in December 1883. John was the son of John Kent and Betsy Downie from Mossbrae, Westray. Jane and John were at Sandquoy in 1891 and 1901 when John’s occupation was given as fisherman. There is no indication that they had family. There were three separate households at Sandquoy according to the 1901 census; the other’s being that of a widow, Janet Hume (nee Drever), and of John Harcus, his wife Martha Thomson and their family. Jane died on 18th October 1901 at Mossbrae, where her father in law still stayed. John remarried in 1903. His second wife was Robina Harcus (b. 8th October 1873), a daughter of John Harcus and Martha Thomson, who were also still staying at Sandquoy. They had five children. John died at Mossbrae on 24th October 1925 and Robina on 15th October 1934. | |||
