Introduction / Families / Harcus / William Harcus (Hercus) and Janet Groat / John Harcus and Jane Scollay Margaret Harcus and John ScottMargaret Harcus (c. 7th November 1838) was a daughter of John Harcus and Jane Scollay of Damsay, Westray. She married John Scott (b. 11th November 1829) on 12th October 1865. John was born in Sanday and was the son of John Scott and Jean Peace. He had been married previously, his first wife being Ann Rousay who had died on 15th July 1865 at the age of twenty nine. Margaret and John had one daughter:
They were at Breckowall in 1871 when, in addition their daughter, the household included children from John’s previous marriage. John’s occupation was given as agricultural labourer. John farmed Newbigging from prior to 1881. That census indicates that there were 17 acres. They had moved to Links No 9 by 1901 by which time John was seventy one. Their daughter was still with them and unmarried. John died there on 2nd September 1902 and Margaret Harcus on 27th April 1906. | |||
