Introduction / William Gray and Mary Robertson

Mary Gray and John James Logan Foulis

Mary Gray married John James Logan Foulis, born 1848, the son of Armit Foulis and Christian Sutherland Foulis, on 2 April 1872. He was a farm servant and lived at Quarryhouse, Papay. He died 21 May 1913, at Quarryhouse. He was recorded at Dykeside in the 1881 and 1901 Census. This appears to be a naming mistake or controversy on the part of the Census takers since every birth, death and marriage record has the family at Quarryhouse from first to last.

There is an inscription in St. Boniface kirkyard naming both of them.

Their children were:

  • Mary Foulis, born 5th November 1874
  • George G Foulis, born 8th September 1879, married Mary Ann Jones. They had a son, Armit John Foulis, who died in 1933 at the age of 24 years
