David Allan and Elizabeth Sinclair

David Allan who married Elizabeth Sinclair is known to be a son of John Allan and Marion Harcus because of relationships indicated on the marriage record of one of his granddaughters. David was baptised on Westray, on 15th June 1773. David and Elizabeth had two known children:

• Andrew Allan, c. 25th May 1794, on Westray. An Andrew Allan married Mary Traill on 28th Nov 1822 and had a daughter, Catherine Spence Armit Allan (apparently named for the daughter of the local Westray minister), baptised on 15th Aug 1828. No other records have been found relating to this family.

• James Allan, b. 25th Sep 1795, c. 2nd Oct 1795 in Kirkwall, who married Elizabeth Reid

According to his son James' death record, David was a seaman. His family evidently moved about Orkney as his two known sons were born on different islands. Nothing more is known of David Allan.
