Robert Bruce Wallace and Jessie Ann Muir

Robert Bruce Wallace, the oldest son of John Bryden Wallace and Lilias Stobie Reid, was born 27 September 1865 on Eday. Except for a short time in Shetland, his childhood was spent in Calfsound, Eday. His father died before he reached his tenth birthday, and as a young man he worked as a farm servant at Skaill farm on Eday. He married at Christmas time 1891, Jessie Ann Muir who had been born on Sanday. Jessie was also a servant at Skaill.

Robert and Jessie had seven children, six boys and a girl, all born on Sanday:

• Robert James Wallace , born 6 November 1893

• Thomas David Wallace, born 25 September 1895

• James Towers Wallace, born 20 July 1897

• Andrew Mains Moodie Wallace, born 10 July 1899

• George Smillie Wallace, born 13 January 1902

• Elizabeth Barbara Slater Wallace, born 30 April 1903

Robert and Jessie farmed the Start farm on Sanday.
