Introduction / Families / Drever / William Drever and Barbara Shearer / Ann Drever and William Harcus John Harcus and Betsy RendallJohn Harcus (b. 29th September 1849) was the second youngest of the family of William Harcus and Ann Drever. He was at Stoneyhall, Westray with his widowed mother at the time of the 1861 census. He married Betsy Rendall (b. 16th January 1853) on 28th November 1873. She was the daughter of Thomas Rendall and Jean Reid from Angerquoy. Her mother had come to Westray from Eday. John was a farm servant. They had a son while at Brough:
The family left Westray and were at Wester Gellet, Dunfermline in Fife in 1881. John was an agricultural labourer. There were no other children at that time. The family immigrated to Canada about 1882. Another son was born there:
John evidently died between 1882 and 1894 because about 1894 Betsy married John W. Phipps, born England, and they had at least two children. In 1901 the Phipps were in Selkirk, Manitoba and William and Thomas Harcus were with them, but the Harcuses have not been found in the 1906 or 1911 Canadian census records. | |||
