Elizabeth (Betsy) Drever

Betsy Drever (b. about 1823) was the youngest of the children of William Drever and Barbara Shearer. She was born in Westray and spent most of her life in Westray at Stencro although away at the time of the 1861 census.

She stayed there with her widowed mother and older sister Jean Drever.

Betsy had one daughter:

• Betsy Drever who as born there on 10th February 1859 and married John Miller

Following her mother’s death, Betsy stayed at Stencro with her daughter and sister.

Betsy, Jean and her mother are described in some of the censuses as spinners. Jean died in 1887 and by 1891 Betsy was in Kirkwall and staying in Mill St. with her daughter, who had by then married. She was subsequently at Berstane Farm where her son in law was a farm servant. Betsy died on 21st July 1912, age eighty eight, at Eastbank Cottage, Kirkwall.
