Introduction / Families / Wallace / William Peace Wallace and Ann Drever William WallaceWilliam (Willie) Wallace was a son of William Peace Wallace and Ann Drever and born at the Ness, Pharay on 23rd June 1904. He was the last postman (postie) on Pharay, taking over the job when the Drevers left Windywa in 1928 and keeping it until the last inhabitants left the island. This required going over to Eday three times a week (weather permitting) to collect the mail and then delivering it, along with news and gossip, to all the houses on the island. He also played to the accordion at parties on the island. He moved with his father and sister to Orphir. They were the last family to leave in 1947. He died on 28th February 1968 and is buried at St. Olafs, Kirkwall. | |||
