Ann Twatt Groat and Richard Caithness

Ann Twatt Groat b. 21st December 1861 was the third of the eight children born to James Clouston Groat and Betsy Peace in Stronsay.

She married Richard Caithness (b. about 1856) in Stronsay in 1885. Richard was the son of James Caithness and Margaret Miller, Greenquay. Richard’s father had died by the 1901 census and he took over the farm there, staying with Ann and their family as well as his mother.

The following children of Ann and Richard are included in 1901 census:

• James Caithnes b. 1886

• Willliam Caithness b. 1887

• Elizabeth (Lizzie) Caithness b. 1889

• Annie Jane Caithness b. 1893

• Catherine Caithness b. 1896

• David Ritchie Caithness b. 1900. David died in 1968.

Richard died in Stronsay in 1945 and Ann in 1949.
