Robert Harcus and Jane (Jean) Seatter

Robert Harcus (b. 15th June 1863) was a son of William Harcus and Ann Harcus. He married Jane Seatter, the daughter of George Seatter and May Seatter, in Westray on 17th January 1889.

They were at Tuquoy, where Robert’s parents stayed, with their first child in 1891 and subsequently moved to Ouseness / North Ouseness.

Their children included:

• May Harcus, born 27th December 1889 who married Andrew Petrie Wylie, a fisherman and seaman in Kirkwall on 14th December 1915. She died in Stromness on 26th July 1965. Andrew died on 28th February 1976.

• George Seatter Harcus, born 19th October 1895

• Jessie Ann Harcus, born 24th December 1899. She married David Drever Seatter in Kirkwall on 5th December 1929. David was a farm servant at Huip, Stronsay at the time and was at Towriehouse, Walls. He was the son of John Seatter and Ann Drever and would have moved with his parents when they went from Newark, Westray to Quoy, Pharay. They had four children. Jessie died on 16th February and David on 26th February 1991.

• Margaret Jane Harcus, born 11th September 1907

Robert and Jane moved to Hoy. Robert died at Towriehouse, Longhope on 11th February 1947 and Jane in Longhope on 4th July 1954.
