The Bight of Sandbister is a fairly large bay on the west side of the island, although quite far south. The upper end of the Bay is about the same distance north as Holland. The Muckle Skerry lies to the south of the Bay.

While there is a little sand in the bay, the main areas of sand are the Long Sand, further up the west coast, and at Scammalin Bay on the south east of the island.
