Mary Groat and John Leslie

Mary Groat, daughter of James Groat and Mary Drummond was born 13th October 1871, probably at Roadside, one of the Lakequoy houses. She married John Leslie on 13th November 1891. John was a farmer from Westray, the son of John Leslie and Mary Drever, born 1st January 1865. John and Mary returned to Swartiback, Westray where they had five children:

• Daniel Joseph Leslie,b. 27th Sep 1892

• James Leslie, b. 3rd June 1895

• Mary Ann Leslie, b. 27th May 1900

• John Thomas Leslie, b. 16th July 1907

• Robert Groat Leslie, b. 16th August 1914

John died on 5th May 1939 and Mary died early in the next year, on 13th January 1940, at Swartiback.
