Eva Melita Linklater and Benjamin Halfpenny

Eva (known as Meta) was born on the 27th October, 1882 at Young Street, Parkside, (src.birth cert.) and was baptised in the Unley Presbyterian Church in 1888.On the 7th January 1914 Meta married Benjamin Halfpenny, son of Thomas and Margaret Florence (Chapman) Halfpenny, who was born on the 6th February, 1882 at Bunker Creek, Wilcannia, NSW. (src.birth cert.)

(Benjamin had an eye condition so his mother took him to a specialist in Adelaide where they stayed in a boarding house owned by Eleanor Linklater. There he met Eva and they eventually married.)

Benjamin was working with his brother Bill in fencing in the Tibooburra area, and they eventually took up virgin land in Queensland, 12 miles from Boullia. There they set up camp in tents, building as they got time between looking after the stock and building tanks and wells to build bough sheds and then a house. Later Ben was a grazier and he managed Stations in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia and when their second child was born, they moved to Mudgeacca Station near Boulia. In about 1948 they moved to Nundora Station, via Broken Hill, NSW where they remained for the remainder of their lives.

HALFPENNY On May 11th, Benjamin Thomas, the dearly beloved husband of Eva Melita Halfpenny, of Nundora Station, Broken Hill, and loving father of Len, Mavis, Jean and Vera; also Queenie (deceased). Aged 79 years. A patient sufferer at rest.
HALFPENNY On May 11th, at Nundora Station, Broken Hill, Benjamin Thomas, dearly beloved grandad of Jeanette. In God's loving care.

HALFPENNY On 11th November at Broken Hill, Eva Melita, loving mother of Mavis (Mrs. G. Evans), 59 Newbon Street, Nailsworth, mother-in-law of Geoff, and fond grandmother of Jeanette and Gordon. In God's care.

Death of Mr. E. Halfpenny
The death occurred at her daughter's residence (Mrs. W. Davies) of 324 Morgan St. yesterday of Mrs. Elva Melita Halfpenny (84)

The late Mrs. Halfpenny was born in Adelaide and had resided and was well known in the district most of her life, her home being Nundora Station, via Broken Hill.

She leaves a grown-up family of one son, Mr. Len Halfpenny (Nundora Stn) and three daughters (Mesdames, Evans, Thomas and Davies).

The funeral took place today leaving Fred J. Potter and Son's funeral chapel 144A Oxide St. after a service commencing at 11.15 a.m. for the Presbyterian Cemetery.

Bearers were Messrs: J. Barlow, R. Patterson, T.Gaiter, C.Casey, C.Reid and J.Pixley.

Representatives present were: Broken hill Lions Club, R.de L.Musgrove, K. Scott and K. Chorlton: Dalgety and New Zealand Loan, Mr. J. Pixley; Broken hill Masonic Club, Mr. P.B.Ludewig; Royal Arch Chapter, Mr. P.B.Ludewig.

The services at the Chapel and graveside were delivered by Rev. R. Duffy.
