Stewart Gullion and Isabella Forbes

Stewart Gullion, born to George Gullion and Isabella Allan was baptised in the East Parish of Westray on 25th October 1812. He married Isabella (Bell) Forbes on 1st December 1831 on Stronsay. They had one known child, a son named Forbes, who was baptised on Stronsay on 9th October 1832. Stewart was a merchant seaman and it is not known what became of him. He was deceased by 1886.

It is not known where Forbes Gullion spent his childhood, but by 1852 he was in Aberdeen where he married Eliza Ellis on 3rd September in Old Machar Parish. By this time Forbes' surname of Gullion had been changed to Gillan either by design or through ignorance. Forbes and Eliza had eight known children:

  • James Cameron Gillan, b. 1st Jan 1855 who married Mary Murphy
  • Forbes Gillan, b. 4th Sep 1857 and d. 1858
  • Andrew Wilson Gillan, b. 7th Oct 1858
  • Margaret Gillan, b. 9th Jan 1861
  • William Henderson Gillan, b. 30th Apr 1863
  • Martin Gillan, b. 17th Oct 1866
  • Henry James Gillan, b. 15th Aug 1868
  • Helen Gillan, b. 6th June 1870

Forbes was a comb maker in Aberdeen and sons James and William also were comb makers. Forbes died in Aberdeen on 7th January 1886.
