Isabella Allan and George Gullion

Isabella Allan, the youngest child of John Allan and Marion Harcus was baptised on Westray on 3rd February 1776. She was the wife of George Gullion and they had seven known children. All but the oldest are recorded in the Westray OPR, and the three youngest were baptised in the East parish of Westray:

• William Gullion, b. abt 1801 who married Isabella Drever

• John Gullion, c. 21st Apr 1803 who married Mary Harcus

• James Gullion, c. 1st Nov 1805 who married Janet Scott

• George Gullion, c. 9th Aug 1807

• Grizzell (Grace) Gullion, c. 7th Oct 1809 who married Adam Benston

• Stewart Gullion, c. 25th Oct 1812 who married Isabella Forbes.

• Thomas Gullion, c. 15th Aug 1815. He may have been the Thomas Gullion who married Jane Reid on Eday, 21st Mar 1844, but no other information about him has been found.

George's baptism is not found in the OPR, and his parents are not known. He was born about 1774 on Westray. According to Isabella's death record he was a woolen weaver. (Other early Gullions were also weavers, but no link between them and George has been found.)

While all their children were born on Westray, at some point George and Isabella moved to Eday where some of their children were married in the 1820s and where they were living at the time of the 1841 and 1851 censuses. George evidently died before 1855, but after the 1851 census. Isabella died at Benston, Eday, on 7th February 1858, age 86.
