Louisa Swannie and Thomas Sandison

Louisa Swannie (b. 14th July 1842) was the oldest child of Isabella Gray and John Swannie. She was not with the family at Hardbraes, Westray at the time of the 1861 census. In 1871, she was at Quoynabreckan and listed as a servant. This was in fact in the household of her cousin John Rendall and his wife Isabella Paterson.

Louisa married Thomas Sandison (b. 1827) in October 1882 when she was forty and Thomas fifty five. Thomas was the son of James Sandison and Mary Rendall from Littlehouse. This was his second marriage, his first being to Ann Bremner with whom he had family.

Thomas was a farmer and continued to farm at Littlehouse. One of his sons also stayed with them there.

Thomas died at Littlehouse on 19th May 1916 at the age of eighty eight. Louisa died there on 10th March 1922.
