Isabella Lennie Swannie and James Marwick

Isabella Lennie Swannie (b. 25th November 1870) was the second daughter of William Swannie and Margaret Drever. She married ploughman James Marwick (b. 23rd November 1867) in May 1889. The marriage took place in Westray and their first son was born there.

James was the third of four children of farm servant James Marwick and Jane Craigie. He was born at Lower Cornquoy on Egilsay.

Isabella and James lived in Kirkwall where the rest of their family were born. Children included:

  • James Craigie Marwick b. 16th July 1890
  • William Marwick b. 1893
  • John Marwick b. 1896
  • Alexander Marwick b. 1898
  • Lizzie Marwick b. 1900

They stayed at 3 Walls Close on moving into Kirkwall with James working as a general labourer. By 1901, the family had moved up to the Holm Road. James was working at the Highland Park Distillery. William Swannie, the son of Isabella's sister Catherine Swannie, was also with them.
