Introduction / Westray Grays / Archibald Gray / Louisa Gray and William Lennie / Isabella Lennie and John Swannie Janet Swannie and John RendallJanet Swannie (24th December 1858) was the second youngest of the children of Isabella Lennie and John Swannie. She was a domestic servant when she married John Rendall (b. 10th September 1866) from Peatwall on 2nd December 1892. John was the third child of William Rendall (Peatwall) and Margaret Rendall (Quoynabreckan). His parents were cousins, William Rendall being the son of William Rendall and Marjory Lennie and Margaret Rendall being a daughter of John Rendall and Marjory Lennie's sister, Margaret Lennie. Janet Swannie was herself a cousin of both of John Rendall's parents as her mother Isabella Lennie was a third of the Lennie sisters. John moved to Belltowers and continued farming there after the death of Janet's parents. Janet and John had four sons born there:
Sons William, James and George all farmed. They didn't marry. It is not known what happened to John but he appears to have left the island. Janet Swannie died on 8th September 1920 at the age of sixty one. John Rendall remarried in 1924. His second wife was Mary Gullion, a daughter of James Gullion and Ann Angel. He died at Belltowers on 12th October 1935. | |||
