John Gray and Eliza Rosie

John was the son of David Gray and Ann Harcus. He married Eliza Rosie on Burray in 1879. She was the daughter of James Rosie and Betsy Ross of Burray. The family moved to Holm in 1880/81.

They had at least four children:

• James William Gray, born 17 January 1880 in Burray and who died on 1st September 1881 in Holm.

• John Gray, born in1882 in Holm and died at six months old.

• William Gray, born 30 May 1886 in Holm and married his cousin, Annie Foulis.

• John Gray, born June 1889 Holm, died unmarried 1911. He was a master shoemaker at that time

John is recorded as a ploughman in Holm in 1886, a farm servant in 1911 and a farmer in 1923 and 1932.

He died on 17th February 1932 at East Graves, Holm. Eliza died there on 4th February 1937.
