Isabella Hercus and William Drummond

Isabella Hercus was born about 1833 on Pharay, to John Hercus and Jane Drummond. Isabella's baptism is not recorded in the Eday Parish OPR so only her approximate birth year is known. (Her age was given as 9 in the 1841 census). She married her cousin William Drummond (son of John Drummond, brother of Isabella's mother Jane, and Janet Reid) born about 1830, on Pharay on 2nd December 1852. They had four children, all born at Ness, Pharay:

• Barbara Drummond, b. 11th Sep 1853 and d. 11th Dec 1860, age 7

• Isabella Drummond, b. 24th May 1855 and d. 20th Aug 1938, age 83, unmarried, at Cairniequoy, Eday. Isabella had been blind from birth.

• William Drummond, b. 14th June 1857 and d. of tuberculosis on 9th Aug 1875, age 18, at Ness

• Stewart Drummond, b. 24th July 1859 and died of tuberculosis on 27th Jan 1880 at Ness, age 20

Isabella and William lived at Ness, Pharay. Isabella died 2nd December 1861 at Ness, of tuberculosis. William later married Mary Gullion, Isabella's cousin.
