Mary Gullion and William Drummond

Mary Gullion, the oldest child of John Gullion and Mary Harcus was baptised on Eday on 12th May 1828. She married William Drummond of Ness, Pharay, on 25th September 1862 at her parents' home at Warthill, Eday. William Drummond, a widower, was the son of John Drummond and Janet Reid. (William's first wife was Isabella Harcus, a cousin of Mary's and daughter of John Harcus and Jane Drummond.) Mary and William had four known children, all born and died at Ness:

• Barbara Drummond, b. abt 1862-3 and d. 16th Dec 1890

• Mary Drummond, b. 18th May 1864 and d. 18th Oct 1882

• Willhemina Stewart Drummond, b. 22nd Dec 1865 and d. 16th Apr 1881

• Eliza Drummond, b. 7th Sep 1867 and d. 23 Apr 1885

Before her marriage Mary was a domestic servant; in 1851 she was at London, Eday, in the household of the widowed John Benston. (John's wife Isabella Harcus was Mary's aunt, her mother's sister.) Also in the household was Mary's grandmother, Marion Allan. Mary died at Ness on 30th October 1880, age 53. After Mary's death, in 1886 William married Mary Peace of Eday. William died at Ness in 1892.
