Margaret Drever and Thomas Bain

Margaret Drever was born 29th December 1862 at Hammer, Pharay to Mary Groat and David Drever. She was at Hammer through 1881, but later went into domestic service in Kirkwall. There, on 20th January 1888, she married Thomas Bain, of Cleat, Westray, son of Henry Bain, a farm servant and Margaret Leslie. Thomas was born 4th August 1865. Thomas and Margaret had one son:

• Thomas Bain, born 1891, Kirkwall

At the time of his marriage Thomas was a ploughman, but he became a merchant seaman. Thomas died at the young age of 29 on 14th June 1895, in Kirkwall. Margaret later had another child:

• Alexina Mary Bain, b. Jan 1898, Kirkwall

Margaret died at 27 Victoria Street, Kirkwall, 31st March 1939. Her death was reported by her son-in-law, L. S. Nicholson.
