Thomas Balfour Mason and Elizabeth Thomasina Adams

Thomas Balfour Mason, the sixth son of John Mason and Margaret Allan who lived on a 30-acre farm at Mayfield, Westray, was baptized on 6th July 1842. On 30th October 1868, he married Elizabeth Thomasina Adams in Dunedin, NZ.  Elizabeth was born 9th August 1844 in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia, daughter of George Edward and Ann Thomasina Adams. Thomas and Elizabeth had four children:

• Thomas George Mason, b. 18th Aug 1869, in Dunedin, NZ, who married Charlotte Parker

• James Albert Mason, b. 1871 and d. 11th Dec 1876, Dunedin, NZ

• Rose Mason, 15th Aug 1874 who married F. Baumgarten

• Lillias Porteous MacDonald Mason, b. 1881 who married W. Chisholm

In 1861 Thomas was an agricultural labourer at Skaill, Westray; however, around 1866, he emigrated to Dunedin, Otago in New Zealand. Thomas and Elizabeth lived in Dunedin until his death on 20th June 1896. Elizabeth died there also on 2nd September 1923.
