Thomas Reid and Elizabeth Thomson

Thomas Reid was born at Gravesend 6th May 1881. He married the 10th of September 1908 Elizabeth Thomson (born 9th July 1890 at Lesshammer, Cusbay, Eday). Thomas and Elizabeth had six children, all born on Eday:

  • Thomas Reid, born 1st November 1908, died 3rd September 1991, married and had one son. In addition to farming at Croyhouse, he earned his living by selling bikes and outboard motors, driving children to school and running a car hire business
  • Mary Jane Reid, born 14th November 1910
  • John Reid, born 7th March 1912
  • Elizabeth Ann Reid, born 27th October 1914
  • William Reid, born 21st May 1916
  • Son, still living

Mary Jane and William both died as young adults and are buried in the same plot in old Eday Kirkyard:

Thomas and Elizabeth lived at Croyhouse on Calfsound. He was called "Postie Tom" because he delivered letters around Calfsound and Cusbay. Thomas died the 12th of December 1960 and Elizabeth died the 18th of February 1968.
