James Gullion and Isabella Harcus

James was born about 1833 on Eday to John Gullion and Mary Harcus. He married at Gateside, Shapinsay, on 11th November 1856, his first cousin Isabella Harcus, daughter of William Harcus and Isabella Benston. Isabella was born about 1836. James and Isabella had three children:

• James Gullion, b. and d. Shapinsay, 1860.

• James Gullion, b. 22nd June 1862, Albert Street, Kirkwall, and d. 9th Mar 1879 at Roadside, Shapinsay.

• John Gullion, b. 28th Oct 1869 who married Jane Muir in 1890.

James was working as a servant at Carrack House, Eday in 1851, but not long after he evidently moved to Shapinsay. He and Isabella were living at Roadside in 1861, at Courthall in 1871 and at Hammer Shop in 1881. James was a tailor at the time of his marriage and later was an agricultural labourer or farmer. Her son John reported that Isabella died at 18 Albert Street, Kirkwall on 29th May 1919 at age 80. James had predeceased her.
