John Drever and Catherine Seatter

John Drever (c. 17th July 1839) was the second of the four children of Thomas Drever and Margaret Thomson. He married Catherine Seatter (b. 28th July 1845) on 29th May 1869. Catherine was the daughter of George Seatter and Mary Seatter from Twinness in Westray.

They lived and farmed at Ramsay, Westray for the rest of their lives, alongside John’s brother and sister, David and Margaret Drever. John’s parents stayed with David and Margaret while John, Catherine and their family formed a separate household.

John and Catherine had two children:

• James Drever b. 14th March 1870. James lived his life at Ramsay and died there on 31st May 1929. He worked as a shop assistant.

• Mary Drever b. 21st October 1871. Mary also spent her life at Ramsay and died there a fortnight before her brother on 17th May 1929. She acted as housekeeper.

Catherine died at Ramsay on 14th November 1914 at the age of sixty nine. John died there on 19th March 1926. He was eighty six.
