Introduction / The Island / Transport JettyDue to transport difficulties, especially of goods and livestock, the local council decided that a jetty should be built in the south end of the island, just north of Scammalin. This was done around 1935/36 and made a tremendous difference, especially in shipping cattle. Jock Brown was in charge of the construction and stayed with Balfour Rendall at Windywa. Balfour was amongst those involved in the construction. A proposal for a jetty at Guith was passed by the Council at the time that the people finally left the island in 1947.Pharay Jetty, 1950s Photo: Balfour Rendall | |||||
