Introduction / Families / Rendall / Balfour Rendall and Maggie Ann Gray Balfour Leigneer Craigie Rendall and Mary Elizabeth TullochBalfour Leigneer Craigie Rendall (b. 1920) was the second of the ten children of Balfour Leigneer Craigie Rendall and Maggie Ann Gray. He was born in Gunn’s Close, Kirkwall at the home of his mother’s sister.
He went to the South Eday School and was with the family when they moved to Pharay, starting the school there in January 1928. On the death of his father in 1937, he became the head of the household, his older brother having married and left. The family moved to a farm in Tankerness in 1947. He married a Mary (Molly) Elizabeth Tulloch from Caldale in the West Side of Eday, who taught in the Pharay School during WWII, on 5th April 1950. Molly was the daughter of Peter Tulloch and Sibella Jane Tulloch. Balfour and Molly lived in Kirkwall. They had one son. Balfour worked for the wholesale grocer, Robert Garden and Co, for many years and subsequently at the Creamery in Kirkwall. He retired and died on 28th June 1997. | |||||
