Introduction / Families / Drever / Thomas Drever and Christian Drever / John Drever and Mary Peace

Christina Drever

Christina Drever (b. 3rd June 1853) was the second of the eleven children of John Drever and Mary Peace. The 1901 census does indicate that she was born in Pharay although this is not necessarily a reliable guide. Certainly the family were at Southhouse in Eday shortly afterwards although Christina did not appear with them there in the 1861 census.

She married Peter Kennedy on 15th November 1881. Peter was born on 9th November 1834 at Cannisby in Caithness, the son of John Kennedy and Elizabeth Hendry. Christina and Peter lived in Albert Street in Kirkwall. Peter was a saddler.

Christina and Peter are known to have had three children who were born in Kirkwall:

  • Elizabeth A Kennedy b. about 1884
  • Jessie A Kennedy b. about 1886 who married Robert Milne in Kirkwall in 1916
  • John C Kennedy b. about 1889

Peter died in Kirkwall in 1891 at the age of fifty three.

Christina remarried in 1898. Her second husband was a commission agent, William Ireland. He was not present at the time of the 1901 census when Christina was living at 58 Albert St, close to her sister Jessie Drever who was at No 59. Christina was running a boarding house there. The census also indicates children of William Ireland by an earlier marriage.
