John Drever and Mary Peace

John Drever (b. 26th August 1823) was the sixth of the nine children of Thomas Drever and Christian Drever. He was with the family at Holland in 1841 and 1851.

He had married Mary Peace (b. 24th April 1823) from Swenstay in Eday a couple of weeks prior to the 1851 census on 13th March. Mary was the daughter of William Peace and Janet Tulloch.

John and Mary formed one of the three households at Southhouse in Eday in 1861, the others comprising his parents and older brother Thomas Drever and his family, the Drever family having moved there from Pharay.

John and Mary had eleven children:

  • Christina Drever b. 3rd June 1853 who married Peter Kennedy and William Ireland
  • John Drever b. 1st January 1855 and died the following day
  • Barbara Drever (twin) b. 9th January 1856 and married William Craigie
  • Mary Drever (twin) b. 9th January 1856 and died on 18th September of that year
  • Mary Drever b. 25th February 1858. She emigrated to the US in 1887 and in 1900 was in New Jersey.
  • James Drever b. 15th October 1859 who married Margaret Angus
  • John Drever b. 9th July 1864. He died on 12th November of that year.
  • Ann Muir Drever b. 28th November 1866. She died at South Panhouse on 19th April 1894, aged twenty seven.
  • William Drever b. 26th November 1868 who married Jennie Hadden and Jane Wards

They were at and farmed nearby Panhouse (sometimes known as South Panhouse) by 1871 and spent the rest of their lives there. John died on 15th May 1905 at the age of eighty one. Mary died there on 2nd September 1908. She was eighty five.
