John Garrioch and Tomima Seatter

John Garrioch (b. about 1862) was the second of the six children of David Garrioch and Marion Drever.

He was born in Eday and subsequently with the family when the moved to Victoria St in Kirkwall.

He married Tomima Seatter (b. 20th June 1868) in Westray on 26th November 1890. She was from that island and the daughter of Thomas Seatter and Christina Leslie. They were staying at 21 Victoria St, Kirkwall at the time of the 1891 census along with John’s brother, William Garrioch. John’s parents had died previously.

By 1901, they were staying in the village of Connel in Argyll, although John was not present on the night of the census. He was an Inspector of Works.

The surname evolved to Garrick. They are thought to have had at least four children:

  • John David Garrick b. 7th September 1891 in Kirkwall. John married Jane Latto Ferguson in Buckhaven, Fife in 1922
  • Malcolm Garrick who as the informant for recording his father’s death
  • James Garrick b. 10th April 1902 in Buckhaven, Fife
  • Thomas Seatter Garrick b. about 1904 in Buckhaven, Fife. Thomas was a coal miner and married Mary Warrender in Buckhaven on 7th October 1927.

John died in Methil on 3rd June 1915. He was fifty three. Tomima Seatter died in Kier Hardie St, Methil on 20th July 1929. She was fifty eight.
