Marion Stewart Drever and David Garrioch

Marion Stewart Drever (b. 16th June 1831) was born on Pharay and the youngest of the nine children of Thomas Drever and Christian Drever.

She married David Garrioch (b. about 1835) from Upper Cott, Eday on 2nd February 1860. David was the son of James Garrioch and Janet Shearer. He worked as a tailor.

Marion and David formed one of the households at Upper Cott in 1861. They were to have six children:

  • Ann Garrioch b. about 1860. She died at Victoria St, Kirkwall on 2nd September 1884.
  • Jemima Garrioch b. 23rd November 1867 at Surrigarth, Westray
  • Margaret Garrioch b. 27th June 1872
  • William Garrioch b. about 1875

The first three children were born in Eday, the next in Westray and the last two in Kirkwall. The family were in Victoria St in Kirkwall by the time of the 1871 census. David’s occupation continued to be that of tailor.

David Garrioch died in Victoria St on 24th November 1879. He was forty five.

Marion Drever died in Kirkwall in 1885. She was fifty three.
