Georgina Stout and Robert Rendall

Georgina Stout (b. 12th October 1855) was the eldest of the three children of Jeremiah Stout and Christian Leslie. She was born at Airy, Westray and there with her family in 1861 when they formed a household alongside her mother’s brother, Thomas Stout.

She was again with the family when they moved to East Gretnagreen.

Georgina married Robert Rendall (b. 18th May 1856) in 1878. Robert was the son of Thomas Rendall and Isabella Leslie from Taphland, Westray.

They had two children:

• Thomas Rendall, born 23rd September 1878 who married Maggie Hewison in 1899. They had family.

• Margaret Cumming Rendall, born 3rd January 1880; died 13th December 1908 at Broughton

In 1881, the family were at Cleat, Westray where Robert was a farm servant. Their youngest child had been born at East Gretna, where Isabella’s mother stayed.

Also at Cleat in 1881 were Georgina’s nephew, Thomas Leslie, with his wife and family.

Georgina and Robert moved from Cleat and by 1901, Robert was a mason and staying at No 2 Broughton Village. Their daughter, Margaret, was still with her parents.

Robert died on 11th February 1922. His occupation then was grocer’s van man. Georgina died on 10th January 1930 at Broughton.
