George Stout and Isabella Jane Bews

George Stout (b. 17th April 1853) was a son of Lawrence Stout and Jane Leslie.

He married Isabella Jane Bews (b. 8th June 1855) in 1876 in Westray. Isabella was the daughter of James Bews and Mary Yorston.

George and Isabella are known to have had at least two children:

• George Stout, born 10th October 1876 at Pierowall, Westray. He died of tuberculosis in Grangemouth on 19th December 1895.

• James Bews Stout, born 5th February 1878 at Shore St, Kirkwall; died 16th February 1881.

Isabella was with her parents in law at Braeside in Westray in 1881 with their son George Stout. She is described in the census at a “seaman’s wife – merchant service.” George was on the ship “Bear” at York, England at that time. He later kept a temperance hotel in Grangemouth.

George died in Grangemouth on 30th December 1896 and Isabella died in Polmont, Stirlingshire on 29th November 1940, at age eighty five.
