The Metis are one of three officially recognised aboriginal people in Canada, the others being the First Nation and Intuit. They are descendents of marriages of Cree, Intuit and other indigenous people to Europeans and other races. There were some early victories at Duck Lake, Fish Creek and Cut Knife. However the rebellion resulted in the destruction of numerous Métis and allied aboriginal forces, and Louis Riel was hanged. | |||
