Robert Sinclair and Jane Drever

Robert Sinclair was born about 1786. His father may be William Sinclair based on Robert being with his family at Windywa in 1841 and a William Sinclair being at Windywa according to the 1810 rental. In addition, Robert’s first son was called William.

Robert married Jane Drever around 1808. Jane was the daughter of Thomas Drever and Ann Hourston and born on Pharay about 1784.

Robert and Jane had nine children who were all thought to have been born on Pharay:

  • Margaret Sinclair, born 25th December 1811. She died at Green, Eday on 9th December 1873.
  • Stewart Sinclair, born 19th November 1813. She died at School Place, Kirkwall on 1st July 1894 and was a domestic servant. She’d been in Kirkwall at least from 1871.
  • Isabella Sinclair, born 2nd May 1817. She died in the Kirkwall poor house on 7th April 1909.
  • Jane Sinclair, baptised 29th March 1819. She died at Broad St., Kirkwall on 19th September 1885.
  • Barbara Sinclair, born 10th August 1821. She died at Broad St., Kirkwall on 9th June 1883 and was a domestic servant.

Barbara Sinclair was on the only child not at Windywa in 1841. Robert and Jane’s eldest son, William Sinclair, had married and formed a separate household there with his wife.

Robert and Jane had moved to Green, Eday by 1851. Children Margaret, Isabella, Jane and Robert still were still with their parents. Robert died on 15th January 1852 and Jane died at Green on 23rd February 1872.
