William Sinclair and Helen McBeath

William Sinclair (b. 7th September 1871) was a son of Robert Sinclair and Mary Reid and emigrated with the family from Eday to Yorkton, North West Territories in 1884 and was subsequently raised on the farm.

He did some teaching and attended Manitoba Medical College in 1902, obtaining a license to practice in the North West Territories in 1904 and Saskatchewan and Alberta in 1905.

He subsequently practised in Saltcoats (Saskatchewan), Manitou (Manitoba) and Manor (Saskatchewan).

William married Helen McBeath on 29th July 1903 at Kildonan, Manitoba and they had three children. The eldest died at the age of five but the other children both married.

He went to England to do a post graduate course in medicine and on his return settled in The Pas, Manitoba where he set up the Gateway Drug Store and later the Gateway Wholesale Company, the latter with his brother James Sinclair.

William was a member of The Pas town council in 1913 and on the Board of Trade.

Due to ill health, he had to give up his medical practice and died on 17th May 1922. Helen died in June 1962 and they are both buried in Kildonan Cemetery.
