Introduction / Families / Stevenson / George Stevenson and Charlotte Corrigal

Isabella Stevenson

Isabella Stevenson (b. 3rd November 1835) was a daughter of George Stevenson and Charlotte Corrigal.

Isabella had two children:

  • John Stevenson, born 13th September 1858, Windywa, Eday
  • George William Stevenson (or Stickler), born 18th May 1863, Shore St, Kirkwall. In a subsequent paternity action, the father was recognised as Peter Stickler. Isabella was residing in Kirkwall at the time.

Isabella subsequently married widower James Cormack at Quoyfaulds, Eday on 15th September 1870. James had eight children from his earlier marriage to Jane Marwick.

Isabella and James had six children:

  • Peter Cormack, born 9th May 1871
  • Adam Horne Cormack, born 3rd November 1872 who went to the US about 1889. He married Hollis Marshall about 1899 and they stayed in Buffalo, New York. The 1900 and 1910 censuses indicate Adam to be an insurance claims agent and a real estate broker in 1920. Adam and Hollis are thought to have had at least four children.
  • Isabella (Bella) Cormack, born 22nd October1874 who went to Canada. She married Kenneth Campbell (b. 15th April 1866, Scotland) on 5th April 1899 at Glenwood, Manitoba. They had family and were at Brandon, Manitoba in 1901 and Qu’Appelle Saskatchewan in 1906. Isabella died on 2nd January 1964
  • Robert Cormack, born 26th October 1877
  • Mary Ann Cormack, born about 1879
  • Jemima Jane Marwick Cormack, born 13th November 1882

The family in 1871, just after their marriage included six of the children from James’s first marriage as well as George Stickler, Isabella’s son. Two of James’s earlier children remained in 1881. In 1891, there were the children of James and Isabella’s marriage with the exception of son Adam Horne Cormack.

The family emigrated to Canada sometime after 1891.

James died at Souris, Manitoba on 27th August 1898 and Isabella at Francis, Saskatchewan on 7th December 1911.
